According to the report, trouble started when the deceased was attempting to expose certain corrupt practices against one of his assailants in the office which he intended to submit to the corps’ headquarters.

A staff of the commission who spoke to Daily Independent on the condition of

anonymity revealed that the suspect had pleaded with Mr. Emeka to stay action on the allegation, but he turned a deaf ear, prompting the suspect to launch an attack with the help of another colleague. It was gathered that: “He (Emeka) was working on a report on a corruption case to be sent to the headquarters in Benin.

“As late Emeka was about going to deliver the report, his oga Akpo Tobo called him back insisting he shouldn’t go. But he refused,” the source said.

“His oga, the unit commander, Mr. Tobo dragged him, trying to take his telephone when another officer joined him.

He was struggling with them over the telephone when the two strangled him to death.”

Emeka, a native of Okpanam in Delta State, was a Senior Road Marshall

The unit commander Akpo Tobo and his accomplice, have been arrested and detained at Onitsha Police Area Command.

FRSC spokesman, Pascal Anigbo, said the incident occurred at 7pm


“I don’t have the full details of the incident now,” Mr. Anigbo said.

The journalists who went to Onitsha Police Area command office, met with the Anambra State Sector Commander of FRSC Mr. Ayodele Andrew Kumapayi but he declined comment as his aid said unless journalists will come to Awka to speak on ugly development .

Meanwhile the Area Commander Onitsha Area Command ,Mr John Obuagbaka Confirmed the incident saying that the Unit commander FRSC Akpo Tobo and one of his colleagues is helping the police for investigations.

Earlier during a visit by the journalists to the Onitsha FRSC unit office some of the FRSC officers who spoke to newsmen in a mourning mood condemned the tribalistic nature of Akpo Tobo an ogoja born and appealed to the authority of FRSC to come to their aid.
